In this new, innovative degree programme, which was developed together with cybercrime professionals, students can expect an application-oriented learning spectrum ranging from the basics of computer science, network and computer technology, cyber security and criminalistics to specific methods and procedures for obtaining and presenting forensic evidence.

Live crime: Digital forensics methods are used to solve crimes involving computers, electronic devices, personal data or the internet. But IT security experts are also in demand when it comes to recovering data, investigating network traffic or analysing criminals’ communication connections.

A Bachelor’s degree in Digital Forensics is the foundation for a successful professional career in the cutting-edge field of cyber security. Thanks to the breadth of expertise and practical relevance of the degree programme, our graduates have numerous career opportunities:
- directly in law enforcement agencies that prosecute cyber attacks on companies, authorities, organisations and private individuals and urgently need experts in IT forensics to investigate, secure, analyse, evaluate and present forensic evidence.
- in companies with extensive information technology that are constantly threatened by cyberattacks and for which they develop preventive protective measures.
- as independent cybercrime investigators or as independent IT forensic experts for companies and investigative authorities.
- as threat hunters who identify existing but not yet known cyber threats in the IT system. The main task is the intensive search for potential threats and the implementation of threat detection tools.
- in IT system houses that offer Security Operations Centres (SOCs) as a service for companies and organisations of all kinds.
- as forensics experts for training and further education in a highly dynamic specialist market.
- as incident experts at insurance companies, banks and public authorities responsible for the basic investigation of incidents and recommendations of remedial measures or measures to be taken.
- as independent IT specialists in consulting and support for the creation of secure IT systems.

Study programme objectives
The aim of the degree programme is for its graduates to be able to,
- understand the basics, structure and functionality of components that play a role in digital forensics, such as computers, networks, system software and applications, and explain their importance for forensic processes,
- understand and apply concepts and principles of cyber security and digital forensics and differentiate between different types of cybercrime such as hacker attacks, malware infections or data leaks,
- assess IT crime in terms of evidence and fraud and be familiar with relevant processes, particularly in the area of cybercrime,
- identify threats in the area of IT security and plan appropriate responses to cyber attacks (incident response) and convincingly justify the correctness, security and appropriateness of a proposed solution,
- recognise attacks on IT systems, analyse them and develop and apply suitable forensic procedures,
- use scientific methods and technologies to secure, record, investigate, analyse, document and present digital evidence in compliance with legal and ethical principles using professional forensic tools,
- plan complex forensic projects, work together in a team and take on subtasks independently,
- formulate subject-related positions and solutions to problems, defend them with arguments and exchange information, ideas, problems and solutions with specialist representatives and people in the professional and scientific environment.
Graduates have also developed an individual, subject-specific skills profile within the framework of optional modules.
Courses are held in German.
